Shri R P Samaddar, IAS (Retd.) joined as Member, West Bengal Electricity Regulatory Commission, on 01.01.2006. Born on 19.01.1946, he graduated from the Calcutta University with Honours in Chemistry in 1966. He joined the West Bengal Civil Service in 1968 and the Indian Administrative Service (West Bengal Cadre) , on promotion, in 1992. He served the State in different capacities, such as, sub-divisional officer of Sadar and Ranaghat sub-divisions of Nadia district (1977-78), Assistant Secretary, Finance Department (1981-87 ), Deputy Refugee Rehabilitation Commissioner ( 1989-91), Additional District Magistrate, North 24-Parganas District ( 1992-93), Director of Local Bodies, (1993-95), Joint Secretary, Department of Sundarban Affairs (1995-99), Joint Secretary and then Special Secretary of the Department of Municipal Affairs ( 2000-2002), Special Secretary of the Department of Power and Non-Conventional Energy Sources (2002-05).

He retired from the Indian Administrative service voluntarily and prematurely on 31.12.2005. He will retire from the WBERC on 31.12.2010.
